FAQ

When should I start working with an advisor?

The earlier, the better, ideally as early as your first year of college. Getting started early allows us to help you choose the right prerequisite courses, map out clinical or research opportunities, build relationships for strong letters of recommendation, and avoid missteps that can delay or weaken an application.

That said, it’s never too late to begin. We work with students at every stage: sophomores, juniors, seniors, and alumni. Thoughtful planning and support can greatly improve your readiness.

For application-focused advising (medical, veterinary, and other graduate programs), we recommend starting at least a year before your intended application cycle opens, and many students begin even earlier. Early preparation allows for stronger experiences, strategic testing timelines, and higher-quality essays and interviews. However, as space allows, we can also accommodate students who are getting a later start in the cycle.

If you’re unsure where you fit on the timeline, reach out and we’ll help you determine the best starting point for your goals.
