Ali grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, and attended Haverford College, just outside of Philadelphia, where he studied Chemistry. After graduating, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a year before moving to Madison to begin his Ph.D. in Chemistry. He is now a third-year graduate student, supported by NSF GRFP funding, with research focused on using molecular simulations to design more sustainable materials and recycling processes.
At UW–Madison, Ali has taught General Chemistry and enjoys mentoring students in STEM. He is strong across math, chemistry, physics, and other science subjects, and can offer guidance to students looking to strengthen their skills and confidence in these areas. On campus, he is also involved in the graduate consulting club and, in his free time, enjoys watching sports (go Lions!) and working out.
