Jacob was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and earned a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Music Performance and Latin American Studies at UW-Madison. After college, he remained active in local music scenes while working at Epic before attending the University of California, Berkeley to earn a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Ethnomusicology. Jacob’s dissertation researched contemporary popular music scenes in urban Brazil, analyzing relationships between money, identity, and sound and how they have contributed to senses of Brazilian-ness in music. During the final years of his PhD, Jacob lived in Goiânia, Brazil, Vienna, Austria, and Barcelona, Spain. Recently back in Madison after nearly a decade away, Jacob is excited to work as a tutor at Galin, helping students with academic testing preparation and high school courses.
Jacob is an experienced writer and researcher who offers guidance on a variety of subjects including English, History, Foreign Languages, and Math. In his free time, Jacob enjoys running, reading mystery novels, eating spicy foods, watching European soccer/football, and playing Brazilian music.
