John grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Case Western Reserve University where he got a degree in Marketing. After moving to Madison, he worked as a marketing coordinator and project manager for the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association.

While working in marketing full time, John also began to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison for graduate school, where he earned a master of science degree in Kinesiology, with a focus in strength and conditioning.

After a few years of working in the private sector of athletic performance, including strength and conditioning for high school athletes, John returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue a doctoral degree in Kinesiology, with a focus on exercise physiology. John has presented his research at multiple national conferences held by the American Physiological Society (APS). In addition to research, he served as a teaching assistant and small-group tutor for introductory human physiology classes for three years.

Currently, John holds a position of teaching faculty within the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he assists with the instruction of introductory biology.

Outside of work, John enjoys reading books, cooking, playing tabletop roleplaying games, and exercising – particularly lifting weights and bouldering. He also enjoys spending time at home and outdoors with his wife and their two dogs, Nala and Meeko.
