Jonathan grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where both his parents were professors at Louisiana State University – “Geaux Tigers!”. Next, Jonathan journeyed north to brave the novel season of winter and attend Carleton College. He embraced the liberal arts approach and eventually settled into sociology for its blend of mathematics and cultural phenomena. After matriculating, he remained in Northfield, MN as an Americorps Promise Fellow where he served as a tutor coordinator for first-generation and ESL students taking college courses in high school. Moreover, he facilitated community service projects, college access programs, and community health partnerships. This love for working with and empowering youth continued when he entered Edgewood University’s teacher accreditation program. After earning his teacher certification, he moved on to graduate research with a focus on the viability of elementary and middle grade pedagogy incorporating different modes of mathematical instruction – specifically the advent of blended and flipped classes in the wake of coronavirus precautions. Jonathan has worked in teaching roles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for 10+ years and has exceptional talents working with neurodiverse students and students who are supported by special education.
You can find Jonathan relaxing at coffee shops knitting or crocheting while listening to audiobooks in Spanish to bolster his mediocre second language abilities.
