Marie G.

Marie's path to college consulting has been anything but straight. She grew up in Sweden, where she earned a BA/MA in East Asian Studies at the University of Stockholm, and spent a year in Japan, studying at Waseda University. She speaks fluent Swedish and holds a bilingual teaching certificate from Columbia University Teachers College. After moving to the United States, she drew on her passion for languages and communication to build a career in destination marketing as Regional Director for the Norwegian Tourist Board. After starting a family, she returned to school to become a Speech-Language Pathologist, earning certifications in both Connecticut and New York, and went on to work in private practice and schools supporting students with a wide range of learning differences. It was in high school settings that she saw firsthand how many students headed off to college without the executive function skills, self-advocacy strategies, or independent living skills they needed to thrive, and how often they struggled as a result. That experience drove her to pivot to college consulting, with a focused specialty in supporting students with learning disabilities and neurodivergent learners. She has also volunteered for close to ten years with Latino U College Access, helping first-generation college students navigate the path to higher education. As a mother of two grown daughters, both Division III swimmers in college, she brings a personal understanding of the college transition as well.

Marie is passionate about helping students find the right college fit — one that includes the academic supports and disability services they truly need to flourish. She loves working with students to help them understand themselves as learners and develop the self-advocacy skills that will carry them through college and beyond. She is a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the College Autism Network, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Recently relocated from Westchester, NY to a lake house in northeastern Connecticut, Marie enjoys running, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, floating on the lake, reading, and cooking — and, of course, spending time with family and friends.
