Maya grew up on the west side of the country in Walla Walla, Washington. She has played soccer for her entire life, which ultimately led her to Wisconsin as she was recruited to play Division III soccer for Beloit College. Going into college, she always new she was going to study Mathematics, but her first year experience class was an introductory economics course which catapulted her into the Business and Economics world. She ended up double-majoring in Math and Business Economics. While at Beloit, she loved being a part of the history making Women’s Soccer Team where during her freshman year, her team earned their first national tournament berth in the program’s history. Off the field, Maya tutored for the upper level math classes and economic classes through the tutoring services offered by the College themself and worked as a teaching assistant for various classes throughout her time there. She participated in various clubs, such as Tennis Club, Math & Computer Science Club, Beloit Actuarial Club, and Women in Economics and Business where she served various Executive Member roles.

Most recently, she had the privilege of working at a K12 public charter school in Beloit. She served various roles in the two years she worked there. While balancing being a student-athlete and a full-time college student, she taught a high school Precalculus class. She also pivoted into a role as an educational assistant during her time there where she focused more on individual intervention with students in math classes at the high school level.

She is now going to begin a graduate program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where she is going to study Applied Mathematics. Eventually, she plans to pursue a career in Actuarial Science!
