Sarah M
College Counselor

Growing up in Michigan, Sarah always enjoyed learning about people and the different paths they take in life. That interest led her to Vanderbilt University, where she earned a degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish, and later to Indiana University, where she completed her master's degree in Counseling and Counselor Education.

Since moving to the Chicago area in 2000, Sarah has worked as a high school counselor, helping students navigate both the opportunities and challenges of high school. One of the most rewarding parts of her career has been guiding students and families through the college search and application process. She loves hearing each student's unique story, helping them discover what matters most to them, and supporting them as they find colleges that are a great fit for their interests and aspirations.

Sarah's greatest strengths in working with students are her warmth, reliability, and commitment to supporting them throughout the college application process. She strives to build trusting relationships so students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and seeking guidance when they need it. Highly conscientious and detail-oriented, Sarah helps students stay organized and on track while navigating the many steps of the admissions process. She also enjoys helping students develop and refine their essays, encouraging them to tell their stories in an authentic and compelling way.

Sarah loves working with students because they are at such an exciting and transformative stage of life. It is rewarding for her to watch them grow in confidence, discover new opportunities, and achieve their goals. She especially enjoys celebrating the many milestones along the college application journey, from completing an essay or submitting an application to receiving college acceptances. Being part of that process and helping students successfully transition from high school to college is one of the most gratifying aspects of her work.

When she's not working with students, you'll often find Sarah volunteering with her dog, Tugboat, a certified therapy dog who brings comfort and smiles wherever he goes. She also enjoys baking, cycling, hiking, attending Broadway shows, and exploring new places whenever she can. Whether she's traveling to a new destination or helping a student take the next step toward their future, Sarah values curiosity, connection, and the excitement of new possibilities.
