Shey Hughes grew up in Forreston, Illinois, and attended Coe College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Secondary Education. During college, she worked for Kids on Course, a nonprofit dedicated to putting students on a path to post-secondary education and a choice-filled life. This experience deepened her passion for education, mentorship, and student success.
Sheyania later earned her Master of Science in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University. She also holds a graduate certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from ISU, furthering her commitment to inclusive education and advocacy.
She has worked in higher education, student affairs, and volunteer engagement, with a focus on collegiate support, leadership development, and accreditation programs that help students and organizations achieve their goals. In addition to her work in sorority and fraternity life, Shey has served as a mentor for international students through Mindbase Education, helping students navigate academic transitions and cultural adjustment. She is passionate about mentorship, leadership development, and fostering inclusive and supportive communities for students and volunteers.
Sheyania currently works as a Collegiate Support Manager at Sigma Kappa Sorority, where she provides guidance to collegiate chapters and national volunteers. She lives in Iowa with her partner and their three dogs. In her free time, she enjoys fitness—especially taking her dogs for hikes—along with reading and traveling.
