Yer grew up in the Wausau area and completed her undergraduate at UW-Madison. She is a Gates Millennium Scholar. During her undergraduate, she participated in multiple student organizations with foci that ranged from underrepresented student academics to sharing the unspoken stories of Hmong women. She also travelled to Japan to be an English camp counselor and interned with the Minority Health Program at the Wisconsin Division of Human Services. She is currently a research coordinator on a team studying Alzheimer’s Disease, inspired from volunteering at a local nursing home facility with the Music and Memory Program. When Yer is not working or on campus, she enjoys traveling, watching crime TV shows, playing strategic card and board games, and spending time with family and friends.
