Success Stories
How did you think about college and the college application process before working with your Galin counselor? What were your expectations?
For me I knew I wanted to go to an Ivy League University and I had the numbers that could accept me into an Ivy League, but I didn't know much about writing essays for even beginning to choose a Common Application Personal Statement. My main expectation with a Galin College Counselor was to have a mentor who could help me write my essays while also being a great advisor in my college selection process.
What was the most surprising thing to you about the college counseling process?
I think the most surprising thing to me about the college counseling process was how personal each meeting felt. With so many clients, I thought that my counselor was going to be really impersonal and give essentially generic advice, but surprisingly my counselor was very close to me, always gave me advice specific to my application, and was probably my strongest support through this entire process.
What did you find the most helpful about working with your Galin college counselor?
I think the most helpful thing about working with my Galin counselor was that they kept me accountable, they really made sure I submitted all materials on time and created essays that were really high quality. Through the college application process, I had 55 essays in all to write, so my counselor helped me create a really comfortable schedule to ensure I knew which essays I had to write and when, while also giving me incredibly timely feedback.
Where are you planning to attend school next year? What are you planning to study? How are you feeling about your decision?
I am planning on attending Yale University as a YES Scholar next year! I'll be studying astrophysics and overall I'm elated by my decision, I can't wait to join such a vibrant campus and explore the depths of space!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I would like to share that overall, there was so much stuff I learned throughout this process and I'm so happy the results were great! I was accepted to Yale and Columbia, and I couldn't be more overjoyed by the decision! Overall, I feel college applications are somewhat random, but counselors can really help move the needle to a successful outcome overall!
